    Hi Gang:
        I enjoy Christmas as an adult, but I have never been able to recapture the magic that Christmas was, like when I was a child. My Mother was divorced, and she had four little girls to care for. (This was in the day before my wonderful Step Father, and baby brother were in the picture.)
To put it mildly, we was po' .    If it had not been for my Grandparents (My Mothers Parents) we would not of had anything. They were not rich by far, but set aside money each month, long in advance, to handle Christmas. (They took money out of their already tight budget, because they loved us so much.)

  Yet, each and every Christmas was like a Norman Rockwell painting.  Complete with new toys, a wonderful meal, and my Grandpa dressed up like Santa.  See, we had no idea we were poor. We had everything we could wish for.  If I had one wish now, I would wish for just one more Christmas like those used to be.

My Grandparents are gone now, as well as my Mother.
It's impossible as a child to appreciate what you have, it just doesn't work that way.
Well I appreciate it now, realize the sacrifices they made for us kids. 
I guess I just wanted to share.  The holidays make me all misty.

(One more thing...The bulbs on my Grandmas tree were special bulbs. They could be opened.  Inside they were full of candy. Yippee )

Awww Blue, I am so sorry. My post was not meant to upset anyone. I just think about Christmas time and reflect back to Christmas' past.

Please don't apologise - its just a very difficult time of year for me.  I can't bring myself to write about it here.

It would be wonderful to hear everyone's stories of their childhood memories of Christmas.

Pam, I can so relate to your post. Children never appreciate what they have, till it's gone. I remember years of Christmases where Mom undoubtedly sacrificed so we'd have a nice Christmas.

I think I was about 20, when I really paid some attention and started really laying it out for those times for the family also. I really looked and thought about what they'd really like.

As for when I was young and we didn't have alot of money.

I remember (Partially) one year my sisters and I went to this place (I have NO idea of who sponsored it) and it was a place where kids went for fun, games and pretty much, that was it.

I suspect, that it was as place for "Low Income" people were invited to come to for something.

I really only remember spending ALOT of time playing "Drop the pin in the bottle" surprisingly I was pretty good and then the 2 sleigh rides we also went on.

snow was about 2 ' deep that year...I never to this day can recall more about it.

I remember the neighbor kids getting new bikes and electric trains etc.(Thier father owned the party store on the corner )
My new gifts consisted of maybe a Barbie doll (Never actually Barbie brand.  We had the generic dolls and their legs wouldnt bend in the middle. ) or a board game or two.  We also got alot of things we needed like coats or boots, mittens, etc instead of things we would of asked Santa for.
